WELCOME TO THE CATERHAM & DISTRICT HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
The 2025 membership schedule is available now and there's two events to renew your membership:
Saturday 18th January 11am to 12pm. Caterham Valley Library, 1 Stafford Road, Caterham CR3 6JG.
Saturday 25th January 11am to 12pm. Caterham Hill Library, Westway, Caterham CR3 5TP.
You can keep in touch with Karen on your membership and our events at [email protected]
As we move into 2025, here's some highlights from 2024:
Our popular Spring Show in April had lots of colourful flowers and cookery and craft on display as lovingly prepared by our members. We thanked Debbie Fox for standing in for her second term as Chairman and wished her well as she moves on to pastures new.
We had a lovely display on the Society's heritage at East Surrey Museum and held two talks on the subject. A range of events through the year included our annual plant sale at Caterham Carnival. We joined in the Chaldon Fete on August Bank Holiday weekend with a mini show and also held an Autumn Show. We also cared for the community garden on Westway allotments.
Our new Interregnum Chair is Jeremy Webster. We still urgently need a permanent Chairman and Vice Chairman, a new Show Secretary and helpers for the shows. We would also value publicity support and hands on help for the community garden on Westway Allotments.
The Society is run solely by volunteers and our main object is to further and promote interest in horticulture and allotments. We are keen to encourage young people and have classes in each of our horticultural shows for ages up to 16 years and a cash prize for achievements by a young person aged 16-21 years.
We're very proud to be affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society, National Vegetable Society Surrey District Association, Surrey Horticultural Federation and National Dahlia Society. Each of these societies hold events with discounted prices for our members. We give occasional talks to other groups and societies.
The 2025 membership fee is £6.00 per year, per household and allows 10% discount at some garden centres. This is deliberately kept low in order to allow the Society to be open and available to everyone. Fill in and return your form on the Membership page to benefit.
Our programme of events is on the What's On page.
