Community Garden - an exciting continuing project for 2023
The vision of Gardening for Health and working more closely with local people and societies started well. The Community Garden project, created by Jean Burns-Thomas on a Westway allotment plot produced vegetables which the volunteers were delighted to discover were deliciously superior to shop bought.
The related project of Caterham in Bloom has received funding from Sutton and East Surrey Water Board initiative "Every Drop Counts" and the Rotary Club of Caterham.
Both these projects aim to deliver colour, exercise, companionship and enjoyment to our local population. Life long learning starts when you are young but never stops. We aim to share experience and knowledge amongst all ages and abilities building their skills and knowledge in nurturing plants whilst having fun, sharing ideas and meeting people.
If you would like to join Faye in the Community Garden in 2023, then please email us at [email protected]
Our grateful thanks to the Rotary Club of Caterham for a generous donation of £500 to the Community Garden.
Introducing gardening to younger people.
We have a number of categories in our shows to encourage young people. This includes table exhibits of flowers and/or handicrafts at our annual shows. We are especially pleased that our local brownies and guides are enthusiastic entrants. For a number of years now, we have worked successfully with young people aged 16-17 years in the National Citizenship Scheme. If you would like to enter a show or are interested in gardening with your school or youth organisation, please contact us for more information: [email protected] we look forward to hearing from you.
